This page shows a collection of outdoor artwork that I made between June 2020 and December 2020. When illuminated at night all of the pieces look substantially different (in a good way) than they do in daylight . There are four categories of work -- Chapel, Haiku Gate, Sogetsu, and Sky Writing -- plus a few outliers.

CHAPEL
A collection of triangles 9 ft on a side which can be easil;y attached in different configurations. Needs no invasive footings ,extremely stable, sturdy but not climbable.
HAIKU GATE
A series of 13 ft tall wooden "frames" used to hold hanging sculptures that move in the wind. Currently there are three contiguous sections, but the frames can be easily separated, added to, or arranged in an endless number of configurations. Similarly, the hanging sculptures can be added/subtracted/rearranged within seconds. Some of the hanging sculptures are wind-driven bells, providing a sonic as well as visual experience for the audience. This piece requires holes in the ground or else substantial above-ground pedestals.
SOGETSU
"Sogetsu" is a modern iteration of Ikebana, retaining the spirit but not the formal elements of the ancient art form. I am using the term here to describe my large sculptures made of plant material, even though some of the pieces are actually pictorial and therefore technically not Sogetsu. This collection of images includes some pieces that I made before the pandemic but which are harmonious with the new work.
SKY WRITING
Wire sculptures set against the sky (or any other large, visually uncomplicated background). Most but not all are new pieces. Most are about 4-6 ft tall. A few are in the 1-2 ft range.
